EMDR Intensives

Why choose EMDR intensives?

Effective: Research shows EMDR intensives achieve faster and lasting symptom relief for PTSD, trauma, and related conditions.
Efficient: Offers progress equivalent to months of therapy, focusing on deep processing without the delays of weekly sessions.

Personalized: Tailored to your goals, schedule, and needs.
Flexible: Choose dates that work in your schedule months in advance.

What can this help me with?

EMDR Intensives can address a wide range of challenges, including trauma from accidents, assaults, or disasters; workplace incidents; relationship stress; frontline and military experiences; childhood or medical trauma; and coping with terminal illness. Whether it’s prolonged abuse, vicarious trauma, or strained family dynamics, this focused approach helps process and resolve deeply rooted issues efficiently.

Who is not a good fit?

If you’re experiencing numbness after a recent loss, regular therapy sessions may be recommended initially, with the option to transition to an intensive later when it’s a better fit for your healing journey.

What is the cost?

The cost of a TGI EMDR Intensives can vary as it is the therapist's rate per hour times the number of hours per day (with a minimum of 4 hours charged). A full day is usually 7 hours of direct and indirect therapy (sometimes more), and most people need 3-5 days. A non-refundable deposit is required to secure a booking, with the exception of organizations such as VAC and CAF.

Are there other costs?

Additional costs include meals and accommodations if you don't live nearby. Treatment must occur in-person within Ontario or British Columbia, and cannot take place at a private residence. If you are out of town or have a busy house during the day, TGI recommends booking a hotel to ensure a stress-free environment during the reflection/relaxation periods of the treatment.

Can I get my money back if I change my mind?

The deposit is non refundable as EMDR Intensives block off a significant amount of the therapists time, which often cannot be filled. As well, we find this approach ensures that booked clients are serious about their treatment plan. Full payment for the day is processed at the end of each day for the service provided that day.

What if I don't need all the time that was booked?

As mentioned, the therapist sets aside time for your treatment, and if not used they have a hole in their schedule. The amount per day charged will be rounded to a half-day fee of a minimum of 4 hours. If work is started after 12PM, then the full day rate is charged of 7 hours. If the day goes over 7 hours, then the actual number of hours will be charged.

Won't I be tired from doing therapy all day?

You should expect to be tired and need to rest after each intensive day, as your system will continue to come to resolution after the days work. We recommend incorporating your EMDR intensive before time off and not to schedule stressful events or responsibilities for a couple of days after.

Is this covered by my insurance company?

You will need to check with your insurance company, as they may have a maximum about per hour or per day that your benefits cover.  TGI EMDR Intensives are offered by provincially registered clinician who is trained in EMDR.

This seems really expensive, why would I do this instead of normal therapy?

EMDR Intensives are an investment in your mental health, and offer a focused, efficient approach, achieving faster, deeper results in fewer sessions. They’re ideal for those with urgent needs, limited time, or seeking rapid progress, making them a cost-effective alternative to traditional weekly therapy. A one-day intensive can deliver what might otherwise take months to achieve.

Can an EMDR Intensive be offered in a group?

YES! We host group retreats and offer custom retreats designed to incorporate EMDR intensives in a supportive group setting. These retreats can be tailored to span 1-7 days and provide a unique opportunity for participants to process trauma and build resilience alongside others.
Our retreats can also integrate the Safe & Sound Protocol (SSP), enhancing the mind-body connection and supporting emotional regulation for even deeper healing. You can learn more about our retreats here.

How Long Will I Need?

At the Trauma & Grief Institute, we understand that the journey through healing can be unpredictable. While we will always do our best to estimate the time needed for our therapeutic sessions, the nature of therapy means that unexpected insights can arise. Sometimes, you may find relief and clarity in fewer sessions than anticipated, while other times, deeper exploration may require more. We are committed to adapting to your individual needs, and provide a safe space for your healing process.

Note that many clients find they are tired a few days after their intensive. Although not essential, we recommend considering taking a couples of days before resuming regular activities such as work, while your system settles.
